The Water Story

How is my water treated?

Your Public Utility Company drills deep into the Floridian Aquifer and pumps up the water it then supplies to it's customers. Due to cost restraints and many technical considerations involved, this water experiences little if any filtration. Large debris is filtered and then the Hydrogen Sulfide Gases that are produced by decaying vegetation are released into the air. The water is then Chlorinated and in some cases Floridated. After injection of these chemicals, the Public Utility Companies sends this "treated" water to their customers. Sometimes this water must travel through miles of underground pipes to reach it's destination.

The process of adding a chemical like Chlorine to disinfect the water, as concerning as this is, still remains the most cost effective method of killing bacteria in the water. Chlorine is then left in the water to help protect it from bacterial contamination as it travels through the pipes. The local Public Utility Companies do the best they can, with the resources available, to provide their customers with bacteria free water.
